Today, I only saw the sun for a few seconds at noon; the sky remained overcast throughout the day.
This is the first annular solar eclipse of this century in China. It is the first annular solar eclipse to occur in China in nearly 22 years, and it also boasts the longest duration of annularity among all annular solar eclipses globally for the next 1,000 years. Although only a partial eclipse was visible from Guangdong, it would still have been a feast for the eyes!
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. Despite waiting with the greatest of hopes, I was met only with disappointment. However, after a moment of disappointment, hope was born anew. I look forward to the next eclipses—this year’s lunar eclipse and the 2012 annular solar eclipse (which will be an annular eclipse in Guangdong).
