History of Army Day:
On April 12 and July 15, 1927, after Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei launched the “Purge of the Communist Party” in Nanjing and Wuhan respectively, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held an emergency meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau in Hankou. They decided to use the National Revolutionary Army under the control and influence of the Communist Party to launch an uprising in Nanchang.
At 2:00 AM on August 1, the various insurgent forces commanded by Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, He Long, Ye Ting, and Liu Bocheng launched an attack on the Kuomintang troops stationed in Nanchang and occupied the city. On the same morning, a joint meeting of members of the Kuomintang Central Committee, representatives of various provincial and special city party branches, and overseas party branches was held in Nanchang. The “Declaration of Central Committee Members” was passed, the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang consisting of 25 people was established, and documents such as the “August 1st Uprising Declaration” were passed. Revolutionary slogans and programs such as “Down with Imperialism,” “Down with New and Old Warlords,” and “Land to the Tiller” were proposed.
