The Journey Through Xinxing Has Ended

Review

June 13: Huangjin cycled down from Tiantang to Xinxing, taking three and a half hours. In the afternoon, he arrived at my house (Taiping). Two girls (Qiaoyi and Yinjian) joined us, forming a four-person cycling group.

June 14: A group of classmates went to Xincheng Town to have dinner at Sister Ying’s place (our Grade 10 homeroom teacher).

June 15: In the morning, the four-person group went to the Dorm Leader’s house (Dawen Village, Dongkou Town). We gathered more people to form a “seven-person group” and went to Lord Chang’s house (Chegang Town) in the afternoon. That night, Huangjin and I stayed over at the Dorm Leader’s house.

June 16: In the morning, we went to Old Zhu and Chuishui’s houses. We cooked lunch at Chuishui’s house—the two girls made the meal! In the afternoon, the Dorm Leader joined us while Yinjian had to leave. Still a four-person group, we rushed to Liuzu Town to stay at Young Master Jian’s house for the night.

June 17: In the morning, we visited Classmate Xing near Young Master Jian’s place. During this time, a tire blowout occurred. I had no choice but to wait for the repair (my new bike!!). We wandered around the mall and picked out gifts (today is Father’s Day, after all ^_^). After much effort, the bike was finally fixed. The “four-person group” then headed back to their respective homes (it was already 4:00 PM).

June 18: In the morning, students needed to return to school to pick up the “Exam Application Guide.” We all went back to school to get the books and, in separate groups, “treated ourselves” to lunch at the expense of two teachers, Zhaozhao and Xiaoping. In the afternoon, Xinjian joined us, and the “five-person group” advanced toward the Rencun-Dongcheng-Shuitai special line. That road was the most painful—full of potholes and covered in mud. We crossed Dongcheng Town and arrived at Rencun, staying at Young Master Feng’s house.

June 19: We continued on the Rencun-Dongcheng-Shuitai line toward Shuitai Town. We reached Jingyi’s house at noon. In the afternoon, we headed back. We returned the same way, but the process was even more painful than the day before. Dust was flying everywhere, and we became literal “vacuum cleaners.”

June 20: Xinjian left, and the four-person group carried out the “most powerful action”: cycling from Xincheng Town to Tiantang Town. It was a journey of over 40 kilometers, taking three and a half hours. The sun was not kind to us, shining intensely. We stopped and started along the way, drenched in sweat. Every time we saw a small shop, we rejoiced (as we could stop to rest and drink water ^_^). We finally arrived at Huangjin’s house at noon. We were too tired in the afternoon, so we rested and played chess.

June 21: We had originally planned to visit many classmates’ homes, but we found that all the classmates in Tiantang had left for various reasons. Thus, it was a somewhat helpless and boring day. We continued to rest and play chess.

June 22: We initially planned to walk around the nearby area, but it rained heavily, and all plans were interrupted. It cleared up in the afternoon, and the “three-person group” reluctantly left Tiantang for Xinxing. This time it only took three hours!

The main reason for rushing home so quickly is that tomorrow is the Dragon Boat Festival. People in rural areas take these traditional festivals very seriously, and our parents instructed us to come home for the holiday, so we returned. I wish everyone a happy Dragon Boat Festival in advance! Don’t forget, “Zongzi” (and home) are always the best!
