The Guangdong Astronomical Society recently issued a notice regarding the “Kaixin Cup” Astronomy Olympiad to be held in Guangzhou on November 29. I thought to myself that since I already missed this year’s National Astronomy Olympiad, I cannot afford to miss this one. I will treat it as a “rehearsal” for my participation in the National Astronomy Olympiad next year. This year is the International Year of Astronomy. To further promote the teaching experiments of the new curriculum for ordinary high schools, cultivate students’ scientific literacy and comprehensive quality, guide primary and secondary school students to understand, learn, and love science, and develop students’ practical, hands-on, and innovative abilities, while promoting the teaching of astronomical knowledge within the middle school geography curriculum and preparing for the 2010 National Astronomy Olympiad, the 5th Guangdong Province “Kaixin Cup” Astronomy Olympiad for Primary and Secondary Students will be held on the afternoon of November 29 at 2:00 PM at Guangdong Experimental High School, Guangzhou No. 2 High School, and the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University.
