Although I had used Linux before, those were just brief trials, usually lasting no more than a week. But this time, as a scientific researcher, I have chosen Linux again and plan to gradually become familiar with it, eventually switching to Linux entirely.
The reasons are actually quite simple:
It is a very “cool” thing to do. Just think, among the people around you, you are the only one who knows how to use Linux—that feeling is so proud!
As a science enthusiast, I can’t be imprisoned within Microsoft Windows’ commercial or pirated software all day, can I? Using pirated software is improper, and I cannot afford the genuine version (I want to save more money to buy a telescope).
The scientific software I use, such as Maxima and Stellarium, both have Linux versions. Using Linux will not affect my use of these programs. Since that is the case, why not?
I am currently using the Ubuntu modified by Ylmf. I intend to make Ubuntu my default system in the future, just as Windows XP was before.
