China — On August 28, countless eyes witnessed this scene: Ice sculptures of children, made in Beijing using glacial meltwater sourced from the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Ganges rivers, echoed the ice sculpture of the number “100” in New Delhi, India. The rapid “disappearance” of the ice children in Beijing and New Delhi tells us that the accelerated melting of glaciers in the Himalayas and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will most significantly impact the lives of people in Asian countries.
