We often hear about the numerous conflicts and battles between Israel and Palestine regarding political and military issues, which is known as the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” However, in the field of IT technology, technical personnel from both countries have crossed the many barriers of the separation wall to work together and develop another global “first.”
After three years of development, an Israeli software development company recently announced the launch of the world’s first internet-based virtual operating system. Using this system, users can directly access their personal computer’s desktop and data from anywhere in the world.

This operating system is called “Ghost,” and its full English name is Global Hosted Operating System, meaning “Global Hosted Operating System.” Ghost is the world’s first network-based “cloud computing” operating system. Currently, the system provides versions in 20 languages, including Simplified Chinese, and the number of global users has reached 200,000.
Register first; after registration, you must activate via email, so be sure to fill in a real email address. If you just want to experience it, you can use a guest account (files cannot be saved).
Unlike typical operating systems, the “Ghost” operating system is equivalent to providing each user with a virtual computer. Users only need to log in to the official website of the “Ghost” system using a computer or mobile phone to quickly access any individual computer on the network and use third-party software services. At the same time, no matter where the user is in the world, they can easily view their personal computer’s desktop and use the files and applications within it. The Ghost network operating system will be a free product, requiring no anti-virus software or firewalls, and no system upgrades. Each user can obtain up to 15GB of free storage space.
The development of this Ghost network operating system was quite arduous. Due to the small number of IT personnel available for hire in the small town of Ramallah, Israel, where the company is located, Schreiber came up with a way to hire some Palestinian employees by establishing a global company. However, because the Israeli government prohibits anyone from traveling between Israel and Palestine, the development team located in these two countries conducted the collaborative development of the Ghost system via telephone and the internet. Despite such harsh working conditions, the alpha test version of the Ghost network operating system was released on the company’s website in May last year. Users of the test version could receive an additional 10GB of network hard drive space as a reward for their contribution to the operating system.
To recognize the deeds of this transnational working group that persisted in development under difficult circumstances, British Prime Minister Tony Blair will also participate in the release event of the Beta version of the Ghost network operating system on Tuesday with this Israeli-Pakistani development team.
Now, you only need a browser, and it is equivalent to having an extra computer. The speed depends on your personal network; I have a 2M bandwidth and it feels quite laggy, so it doesn’t feel very useful at the moment.
